Religious Education is the “core of the core curriculum” (Pope St John Paul II) at Our Lady’s Catholic High School. Our mission is to educate the whole person in discerning the meaning of their existence. Religious Education is concerned with more than just intellectual knowledge as it includes emotional and spiritual learning.
“I am the Bread of Life.” (Jesus in the Gospel according to St John 6:35)
The aims of Religious Education are to present knowledge and understanding of the Catholic faith. We strive to enable pupils continually to deepen their religious and theological understanding and to be able to communicate this effectively. We present the Church’s moral and social teaching so that pupils can reflect upon the underlying trends in contemporary culture and society. This raises pupils’ awareness of the faith and traditions of other world views in order to respect and understand them. We enable our pupils to be religiously literate and engaged young people. Pupils will have the knowledge, understanding and skills to reflect spiritually, think ethically and theologically, and be aware of the demands of religious commitment in everyday life.
