Careers Vision Statement 2021/22
For each student at our school, our governors, senior leadership team and staff share the same ambition; to deliver a fulfilling and comprehensive careers programme that is inclusive, individualised and meaningful. We work collaboratively within our community and encompass the expertise of employers, parents/carers and further education and training providers to establish a culture of ambition. Our pupils benefit by providing a platform to talk openly and receive guidance about their future, improve their labour market and career awareness, improve their decision making, develop their employability skills, provide opportunity for them to learn from experiences of employment and employers, all whilst growing and nurturing their unique aspirations.
Key Strategic Objectives 2021/22
- To continue to meet the needs of our aspiring students and improve our programme by utilising destinations data, student and parent surveys and evaluation
- To enhance and improve the thematic and progressive ‘futures day’ for each year group
- To further increase apprenticeship knowledge at level 3 and level 4 and seek further insight from employers/FE/Universities/degree apprenticeships
- To further develop to develop the skills set of our pupils that transfer into employment
- To further have the support of apprenticeship talks from non-traditional paths and industries to include construction, digital and energy
- To increase the opportunity for our pupils to engage with universities
At Our Lady’s Catholic High School we are committed to providing all of our students in Years 7 to 11 with a comprehensive programme of careers education, information, advice and guidance (CEIAG) and work related learning (WRL) that is underpinned by the firm belief that every young person needs high-quality career guidance to make informed decisions about their future.
Our programme is guided by the eight Gatsby Foundation benchmarks. Click on each descriptor below to learn how we:
- Have an embedded programme of career education and guidance that is known and understood by pupils, parents, teachers and employers.
- Provide good-quality information about future study options and labour market opportunities.
- Offer different career guidance needs at different stages where opportunities for advice and support are tailored to the needs of each pupil.
- Link curriculum learning with careers for a wide range of future career paths.
- Facilitate opportunities to learn from employers about work, employment and the skills that are valued in the workplace.
- Provide first-hand experiences of the workplace to help their exploration of career opportunities.
- Ensure our pupils understand the full range of learning opportunities that are available to them. This includes both academic and vocational routes and learning in schools, colleges, universities and in the workplace.
- Provide guidance interviews with a trained careers adviser.
