Outward Bound Trip Report
Over the weekend 36 year 8 students embarked on an Outward Bound adventure to Ullswater to study Geography whilst improving their teamwork and communication skills in challenging environments.
After the hour and a half journey students were soon woken up with the traditional Outward Bound ‘jog and dip’ in Ullswater-yes it was very cold and no they didn’t have wet-suits on.
After the refreshing dip students worked as a team to prepare for their expedition. The students were split into 3 groups of 12 (Shackleton, Mallory and Francis). One group canoed down the lake, then summited Gowbarrow before wild camping in the mountains. The second group canoed across the lake, caught the steamer to Glenridding, summited Sheffield Pike and wild camped on the mountain and the third group rowed across the lake, summited Place Fell and wild camped on the mountain.
The groups were treated to a fantastic sunrise on Sunday morning but for the rest of the weekend were challenged by poor visibility and rain. Despite this all teams remained in high spirits, faced their fears and showed resilience and courage. Well done year 8s.
